Environmental associations – Fenua and terrestrial biodiversity

Protecting the fenua is another major focus of community involvement in Moorea. Associations work to preserve the land, valleys, mountains, and terrestrial biodiversity, while promoting environmentally friendly practices. Their actions include reforestation, soil protection, species management, promotion of local plants, and raising awareness of more sustainable agriculture. Some associations also work to pass on traditional knowledge related to nature and the use of plants. Initiatives focus on pollination, insect protection, biodiversity in gardens and natural spaces, and the development of small-scale agricultural or educational projects. These actions help to strengthen the bond between residents and their terrestrial environment. Organizations such as the Fédération Tāhei 'auti ia Mo'orea, Les bourdons de Moorea, Mou'a roa Heaven Bio – Association, Taatiraa Huma No Moorea-Maiao, and Animara Moorea are part of this dynamic. They participate in the preservation of the fenua and the transmission of practices that respect the land.
